Help Desk Manager, April 2004 to February 2005
• Responsible for five-person help desk staff serving the technical needs of 12,000 customers with three ISPs. Duties include scheduling, providing escalation backup to support technicians, tracking and troubleshooting of system-wide issues, development of internal support tools as well as corporate website, and front-line support when necessary.
• Developed PHP/MySQL interface to track virus-infected customers. This replaced previous offline tracking, which was haphazard and imprecise.
• Assisted in the seamless transition of users from another ISP to running on the servers and with support provided by CMC. The result was zero downtime; in fact, other than that operations were significantly more stable, few users noticed the transition.

• Responsible for technical operations of 4000+ customer Internet Service Provider, including four-person system administration staff (with hiring, termination, and disciplinary responsibilities), server infrastructure and connectivity, company website development, and improving services to members.
• Supervised transition from mixed distribution Unix architecture to standardization on FreeBSD as server operating system, improving security, stability, and ease of maintenance.

• Responsible for daily administration of ten servers performing standard duties for an ISP, in a mixed FreeBSD and Windows 2000 environment.
• Improved auditing and accounting of dial-up and ADSL accounts by developing web-based tracking systems, utilizing Perl/PHP/MySQL back ends.
• Worked closely with accounts receivable to develop a web-based billing system using PHP, Perl, and MySQL that integrates data regarding customer services (such as ADSL, dial-up, and web hosting) with their monthly billing statements. Over a year after my departure, it is still in use with few modifications.

• As a site that reviews films on the DVD format, DVD Verdict receives over 900,000 visits (from over 300,000 unique visitors), 12 million hits, and over 2 million page views each month. In the five years I have been the editor and webmaster, traffic has increased five-fold.
• Responsible for the management of a staff of over 40 volunteer writers.
• Beyond writing and editing duties, I am responsible for the development and architecture of a site with nearly 10,000 pages of content. Back end is based on open-source software utilizing PHP, Perl, MySQL, and Apache. With the exception of the discussion board package, I have written all the site's coding (over 4,000 lines of PHP, 3,000 lines of Perl).
